Fine books of poetry and short fiction.
Books and other resources for writers. Resources for leaders of Amherst
Writers & Artists and Amherst Writers &
Artists Institute method workshops.
Available from the Press this Fall:
As participants of AWA/AWAI trainings take the method into their
communities, many have written to Pat about their experiences. Their
letters describe workshops not only in colleges, school and living
rooms, but also in prisons, shelters, and half-way houses; they
tell about work with refugees, blind people, elders, and people
with physical or emotional disabilities.
These writings crackle with life; they are full
of humor and wisdom, passion for the work, and respect for the
writers. Too numerous to fit into a chapter of Pat's book (Writing
Alone and with Others), they form the core of a new book,
Writing Groups for Special Populations: The Passion & Practice.
Co-edited by Daphne
Slocombe and Kathy Dunn,
the book portrays the excitement of the work, and provides concrete,
practical resources for forming and leading writing groups.

An Anthology on the Experience of Race in
the U.S.
We are looking for writing by both African-American and white
women who remember life before the Montgomery Bus Boycott. For more
information, read the article on Pat's
web site. |
Amherst Writers & Artists Press is a nonprofit press
that publishes Peregrine, a literary
journal, and one or two books of poetry each year, totaling so far twenty
volumes, with four more currently planned. All of our books are designed
by Barbara
Werden, who has received both national and international prizes in
book design. This year, we are pleased to announce the arrival of two
new books of poetry: Hungry Grass, by Mary-Beth O'Shea-Noonan and
Olive Street Transfer, by Pat Schneider. Also new is a book about
workshops for youth-at-risk, by Robin Therrien, titled Voices from
the 'Hood. Amherst Writers & Artists Press is a member of the
Council of Literary Magazines & Presses and the Small Press Center.
Forthcoming books include a collection (as yet untitled)
of the poems of children in AWAI workshops, edited by Enid Santiago Welch,
$20.00.
