Blood Must Bear Your Name

Blood Must Bear Your Name

Blood Must Bear Your Name, Sue Walker, Amherst Writers & Artists Press, $14.00
Paperback, ISBN 0-941895-23-8, 88 pp

Poetry
In the title poem, Walker tackles a subject seldom dared. The long poem is in the voice of an historical woman, the white daughter of a slave owner who was murdered by the black slave he used for sex. Another long poem with sass and zest takes on James Dickey, whose work Walker has studied for many years.

"The poems of Blood Must Bear Your Name reach back into the mysteries and paradoxes of kinship... they reach back across time to tell the stories of lives from the inside...with courage, defiance, eloquence." Robert Morgan, Kappa Alpha Professor of English, Cornell University.

"These compelling poems are crafted of body-soul." Helen Norris, Poet-Laureate of Alabama.

Sue Walker lives in Mobile, Alabama, where she is a professor of English and Chair of the English Department at the University of South Alabama. She is the recipient of an Alabama Council on the Arts Individual Artist's Fellowship, and has won awards for both her poetry and her fiction. She is the publisher of Negative Capability Press.
