Registration

The AWA Conference registration fee includes 2-day admission to the Conference, continental breakfast, light snacks, and lunches. The registration fee does not include attendance to the Founder’s Dinner on Saturday evening. Attendees are responsible for any extra expenses they incur during the weekend such as: hotel, transportation (flight/train/drive), ground transportation in the area, parking, breakfast, laundry, Internet charges, etc. 

Discounts

Affiliates who have paid dues in 2014 receive a $50 discount on the registration fee. Affiliates may also participate in the Book Fair; details below.

Venue Information

The Amherst Writers & Artists Conference will be held at the Willits-Hallowell Conference Center & Hotel at Mount Holyoke College in South Hadley, Massachusetts. Directions to the Willits-Hallowell Conference Center are below.

Directions/Parking

From the East or West (I-90) – Massachusetts Turnpike)
Take Exit 5 (Holyoke/Chicopee). After toll, bear right. At the end of ramp turn left onto Route 33 for 5 miles to Route 116. Turn right onto Route 116 and drive approximately 1.5 miles north to the College. Pass the main gate of the College on the right. Take the next right onto Church St. and continue to the bottom of the hill.  Go over the small bridge and take a right into the Willits-Hallowell parking lot.

From the South (I-91)
Travel north on Interstate 91. Take Exit 16, Route 202, Holyoke/South Hadley). Follow Route 202 North through Holyoke, across the Connecticut River, and enter rotary, taking second right (staying on Route 202). Take the exit marked South Hadley Center Amherst, Route 116 North. The College is approximately 2.5 miles from the exit. Pass the main gate of the College on the right. Take the next right onto Church St. and continue to the bottom of the hill.  Go over the small bridge and take a right into the Willits-Hallowell parking lot.

From the North (I-91)
Travel south on Interstate 91. Take Exit 16 (Route 202, South Hadley/Westfield). At the end of the ramp, take a left; follow Route 202 North as above.

Additional Parking:
From Church St., take the second right at the Greenhouse, then take first left over small bridge to Prospect parking lot. Willits entrance is by the footbridge.

If you completed your registration form with your food allergies, this information will be made available to all caterers. If you did not indicate your restrictions on the form, please inform contact Katie Frank at AWA.

Founder's Dinner

Pat Schneider will speak at The Founder's Dinner which will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday. This dinner is a separate fund raiser for AWA's Outreach Program. The cost is $40.00 for a buffet dinner and the opportunity to hear from and talk with Pat Schneider. This event is open to everyone registered for the conference as well as the general public.

Will I have time to get to know the other attendees?

Yes, this is an important part of this conference. For this purpose, breakfasts and lunches have no seating arrangements to encourage as much socializing and mixing as possible.

Dress Code

There is no formal dress code during the program, but we recommend warm, comfortable clothing.

Can I bring a spouse, friend, or other relative?

Only those who are registered and have been trained in the AWA method are allowed to attend. Attendees are not allowed to bring guests to the program. This is an important and unique educational opportunity that is greatly enhanced by spending your time learning and building relationships with the facilitators and fellow guests. You are welcome to have a companion travel with you to visit the area while you are in the Conference.

Can I take pictures during the conference?

Taking pictures is welcome during the general sessions and in the public areas. To respect the privacy of other attendees, we ask that you not take pictures during the workshop sessions or lectures. There will be many opportunities for you to take pictures with the group in other settings throughout the weekend.
